My name is Cara O'Hearn. Originally from Haiti, Port au Prince, I was adopted and arrived in Canada at the young age of 3. I have always felt a passion for dance. At age 6, I participated in my very first class under the guidance of my first teacher, Jessica Yik, and my love of dance only grew from there. I had an extra special spot in my heart for ballet. In my late teens, I pursued my training at Victoria International Ballet Academy, taught by the amazing Victoria Mironova and Elena Dmitrieva. My training was Vaganova based. Click here to learn more about the Vaganova method. I had the most wonderful opportunity to participate in Miss Mironova’s professional productions of Nutcracker and Cinderella, which takes place annually. Furthermore, I was part of a ballerina group named Smiles for All partnered with Crafting for a cure, an organization dedicated to bring smiles to children in hospitals. Learn more about this organization here. As a Smiles for All ballerina, I have danced Gamzatti variation (from la Bayadère Ballet), a self choreographed dance to the Disney song “Just around the Riverbend” and group dances with my fellow dancers in front of children, in the hopes to take their mind off their sickness/pain, at least, for a moment.

In 2020, I was inspired to teach a bit of ballet to my friends through instagram live. You know, it was the covid era back then and everything was online. Then I started offering free lessons to a very good friend of mine I met through instagram and then a few more people were interested and they started taking classes too. I completed a toddler and preschool dance certification with OUB (Once Upon a Ballet) and just recently, with the CDTA (Canadian Dance Teacher's Association). When I'm not dancing, I'm a full time ECE (early childhood educator) for which I received my diploma in 2018 when graduating from Seneca College. I look forward to getting to know you!

Vision

Ballet Fix is a nurturing business that sees a dancer in every single person, embraces diversity and has a goal to lead students to success. Above all, Ballet Fix is there to provide a happy place where dance students will learn the most important thing of all- to have FUN! I realize that one can lose oneself in the rigidity and seriousness of ballet, constantly striving to perfect technique. But it is important to let go, enjoy the process and be yourself too. Ballet isn't about being perfect but rather is the ability to express a beautiful passion which comes from the heart.
